One Way Radios In Trucks??

Postby Rollcage74 on Thu Jul 02, 2009 8:23 pm

General Rules Section
4. RADIO COMMUNICATION – Two-way radio communication systems are mandatory for the ASA Challenger Late Model division. One-way radio systems (i.e. Scanner and/or RACEceivers) are mandatory in all divisions. For ASA Challenger Late Model teams all spotters must be equipped with one-way and must be able to legitimately relay all speedway one-way commands to their driver.

ok.. I know this is a grey area but I'm going to ask anyway. Is a Two way communications system illegal in the truck series if the driver can not talk back? this has been talked about several times but I feel that a spotter is just as much as atvantage as a mirror is. I have not been given a straight answer. I also don't like to point out people but Dereks Father kept bleeding over my one way last week and all I could hear was "Calm Down Derek" and Your supposed to be here" etc.... basically spotting. so is it illegal or legal? comments? Loophole?. if I can't get an answer here. I will bring it up at the driver's meeting. when he talked , even though I had my scanner I use on 454.0000 , it was extreamly destracting.

Not hollaring or complaining but if someone can have a spotter , can I have a mirror?

Thanks all

Ray

Before Frank left AIS, he said that 2-ways are legal for all classes this year. I mentioned mirrors for those of us who can't afford 2-ways and don't have spotters and the mirror idea was shout down like a wounded goose. Look back through this forum and you will find the topic where all of this was discussed in great detail.

Ray, I was hearing one of the allison legacy drivers and spotter on 454 the last time they were at AIS. The bleed-over was because of my scanner being on some weird function that allows it to pick up the sy=trongest signal in the area. Maybe your scanner has that same annoying feature...? I had to read my instruction manual to learn how to turn off that feature. Hope this helps.

According to what we were told before the season started, yes. 2-ways were approved for all classes, but mirrors are only allowed in the late model class.

It would be nice if the tower would let us slower cars know when the leaders are approaching so we can stay low or high and not get run over and cause the "big one". A spotter would be great, but I can't afford new tires, let alone a 2-way radio system. The blue and yellow flag only works if I am being lapped on the front stretch. And it hurts my lap times even more if they show that blue and yellow flag on the front stretch and the leaders are still a half lap behind me. I take a lot of pride in being able to hold my line when the leaders are approaching, so it would help if I had someone telling me how close I am to being lapped, or passed if I start up front and not get wrecked before I enter turn 1  .

well. I guess I'm not to worried about it. Just so You guys know. I have a scanner and plan to use it. I've already set up a friend myself to help Me out. I'm going to use my scanner , like I always do for the tower, but this time I'm tuning into someone to help me spot. My spotter will be able to talk to me and He will have a one way for the tower. I have no way to talk back to my spotter. Hence. I have my one way. and I can still understand the tower. Thanks for the responces guys. Like I said. If I'm gonna have any chance to beat anyone, I WILL do it leagaly. See Ya'll Saturday.

2 way radios

Postby Frank Fazio on Sat Jul 04, 2009 10:35 am

Nowhere in the rules does it say you can not have them. It was brought up by a driver/owner who thought it would be better than mirrors especially with the number of new drivers that it would be a safety issue so a spotter could let them know what is going on around the track such as a wreck, a slow car, leaders are comming and some do not even watch the flag men, som they need to be told yellow flag is out slow down, red flag is out stop, black flag is for you go to the pit and yes green flag is out race is over. Sp Paul and I agreed is was OK
